Isn’t it peculiar that some people only pray on Sunday or when someone is sick?
The Bible says, “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” (Matthew 21:22) and EVERY self-help guru who really understands how things work in this Universe says the same thing. Exactly the same thing.
It is true, you get what you ask for when you know how to ask and how to receive what you’ve asked for:
You ask by having a strong desire for it. Focus yourself on making a statement – not a question, a statement – to your Creator with your thoughts, words, and feelings that this is what you desire.
You don’t ask a question because it is already well established that your Creator will give you what you ask for. Anything you ask for is already yours. A question says something about your belief. A statement says you believe.
You only ask once. You don’t need to keep asking. You only need to give thanks because what you ask for is already yours. If you ask again it says something about your belief. If you give thanks it says you believe.
You receive by turning it over to a higher power. If you believe in God, “Let go and let God” isn’t just a saying. It’s how things work. Let go of trying to figure out how it will happen and just know that it will. If you believe in any other higher power it works the same way. Exactly the same way.
Then, believing it is already yours (because it is) you pray ceaselessly. That means you give thanks and you feel what it feels like to already have what you’ve asked for — and you keep thanking and feeling. It becomes your predominant thought throughout your day. Every day, at least every morning and every evening, you sit quiet and focus yourself on a connection to your Creator. Give thanks and feel the feeling of having it already.
Why do you have to feel what it feels like to have it already? That is how you show specifically what it is you are giving thanks for – you are thanking for having it, not thanking for the hope of it. Since you get what you desire you want your desire (love) to be about having it, not desire hoping for it. Feel the joy, love, and gratitude of having what you ask for. Feel the joy, love, and gratitude knowing it will always be this way, you will always get what you ask for, all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing.
Yes, it does make sense to pray when someone is sick. It makes even more sense to pray as part of your daily life experience. You don’t just get what you ask for in prayer when someone is sick. It was meant to be applied to your daily life.
This power, your Creator, God, the Universe, the Infinite Intelligence, it’s there within you to guide and direct you and give you everything you need to express and experience a joyous life. It will do exactly that if you let it.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
But Alan, I prayed when my grandmother was sick and she still died. Why?
First, know that who and what we are is more than just physical bodies. We are Body, Mind, and Spirit. The physical body is an instrument that is used to do things in the “physical” world. The Mind is another instrument used to think, reason, and plan. The Spirit, the power within you where all life begins, that is your true nature. That is what controls and directs both the body and the mind. When you think “I” you are thinking about the power within you that gives you life. This power cannot be destroyed, it cannot die. The physical body can stop working, but the spirit inside of us will always be.
While we are all part of the same, we are all also individuals, parts of the whole. We are individuals with our own thoughts and feelings that nobody else can think and feel. It was meant to be this way. We are all here to follow our own path and experience life. Your Grandmother followed her own path, and as long as she let her Spirit guide her it had to be the best path for her to follow. If she did not let her Spirit guide her it was still the best path for her to follow since it was of her own thought that her life experience was created.
You might influence others to alter their path and someone might influence you to alter yours, but it will always be your own because only you – Body, Mind, and Spirit – can make that journey. Your grandmother’s physical journey may have ended, but that which gave her life will always be.
Understand, her physical body did not speak to you, her spirit did and used her physical body to experience it. Her physical body did not hold your hand. Her spirit did and used her physical body to experience it. Her physical body did not love you, her Spirit did and does and always will. As odd as all that sounds, that is who and what we are. That is our true nature. We are spirit in the flesh.
